A call to reawaken

The Future of Human Life and Work: A Looming Crisis
Are we witnessing the slow collapse of essential human services while chasing digital illusions?

Introduction

In today’s rapidly evolving world, humanity faces a silent yet alarming crisis. As artificial intelligence (AI) advances and youth migrate toward tech careers, society is dangerously neglecting essential self-employment services that form the foundation of everyday life.

The Disappearing Workforce in Essential Trades

Skilled professionals—carpenters, plumbers, masons, tailors, electricians, home nurses, and palliative care workers—are now difficult to find. These aren’t luxuries; they’re necessities.

The absence of such workers has real consequences:

  • Homes remain unrepaired.
  • The elderly struggle without support.
  • Agricultural activity declines.
  • Basic services vanish from rural life.

The Metro Dream and Its Harsh Reality

Over the past two decades, countless young people from towns and villages chased careers in the booming IT industry. Families sacrificed land and wealth to send them to colleges and metro cities.

But now, many of those jobs are vanishing:

  • AI automates software development, support, design, and even creative tasks.
  • Retrenchments and job insecurity are becoming the norm.
  • Educated youth, once considered successful, are returning home jobless.

An Imbalance That Threatens Society

As all eyes turn to technology, rural professions are ignored. Yet, AI cannot pluck coconuts, build homes, nurse patients, or fix water pipes.

We are dangerously close to societal imbalance:

  • Cities overflow with job-seeking youth.
  • Villages cry out for essential workers.
  • Families who supported the tech dream are now under financial and emotional stress.

The Way Forward: Rebalancing Human Activity

To prevent a social and economic breakdown, we must take action:

  1. Revalue Skilled Trades
Honor carpenters, barbers, and farmers as respected professionals—not as second-class workers.

  2. Revive Vocational Education
Schools should promote practical skills from an early age alongside academics.

  3. Support Local Self-Employment
Provide easy loans, grants, and training for rural entrepreneurs in repair work, food production, and caregiving.

  4. Use AI to Assist, Not Replace
Combine the speed of technology with the heart and hands of humanity.

Conclusion: A Call to Reawaken

What is real work? Is it only coding behind a screen—or is it building, healing, feeding, and serving?

We must redefine success. We must restore dignity to self-employment. We must guide the next generation to see value in all forms of work.

This is not just an economic concern—it’s about the survival and soul of society.
