The meaning of life

The Unpredictable Journey of Life

Life is a strange and unpredictable journey. No matter how much we plan or prepare, it has its own course — one that no human can truly foresee. Within a single moment, everything can change. What seemed like a normal, peaceful morning can turn into a storm that leaves behind pain, helplessness, and unanswered questions.

On the morning of May 16th last year, I woke up healthy, managing my life with dignity despite my physical limitations. But by 7:30 AM, everything changed. A sudden fall — so unexpected, so cruel — shattered my hip and altered the rhythm of my life. In mere seconds, I went from walking independently to needing a walker, becoming further handicapped. The pain was not just physical; it shook the very foundation of my strength, my independence, my spirit.

As if that wasn't enough, life had already placed a burden on my heart for the past fifteen years — the suffering of my beloved daughter. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, her life became a series of emotional storms. I had always dreamed of a responsible, capable daughter who could be my support in my old age, a companion in my difficult moments. Instead, I watched her dreams fade, her marriage prospects vanish, and her vibrant spirit often lost in the shadows of illness. Her pain became mine. Her silence became my sorrow. And as a father, I stood helpless.

Many people do not see what lies beneath a calm face — the sleepless nights, the suppressed tears, the quiet endurance. I carry the weight of both physical pain and emotional heartbreak. My heart aches when I think of what could have been — for me, for my daughter, for our family.

But life doesn’t stop. It drags us along. Whether we are ready or not, whether we are broken or whole, it goes on. In the face of despair, we somehow keep moving forward — step by step, often without knowing how. Perhaps that is the true miracle of human existence: the ability to carry pain and yet not give up.

In every human life, there are moments that steal away peace, destroy dreams, and test patience. Adversities come uninvited — illness, loss, loneliness — and they leave behind scars that few can see. But within those moments also lies silent resilience. A quiet strength that keeps us going, even when our world turns dark.

I often ask myself: What is the meaning of all this suffering? Why must life be so harsh, so unfair? I find no clear answers. But I do find one unshakable truth — that in spite of everything, life continues. And perhaps, in that continuity lies a silent hope — that tomorrow, somehow, might be kinder than today.
