A father's prayer

A Father's Prayer
It was just another evening — or so it seemed. But for a father living under the constant shadow of his daughter’s illness, no evening was ever truly ordinary. The sun had set, but the weight in his heart only grew heavier. His daughter, struggling with bipolar disorder, had once again refused to take her night medication — the lifeline that kept her stable, calm, and connected to the world.
Her prescriptions were clear: Olanzapine and Lumateperone 42 mg, to be taken at night. Yet, as with many suffering from bipolar disorder, she had begun to distrust the very thing meant to heal her. She looked at the tablets with suspicion, her mood unpredictable, her mind tangled in thoughts only she could understand. "No, I won’t take them today," she said sharply.
Those few words pierced deeper than a thousand knives. The father, a man of quiet strength forged through years of personal struggles, now found himself trembling — not from cold, but from helplessness. His hands shook, and a strange shiver crept down his spine. His breath became shallow. The pain of watching his daughter battle an invisible storm tore into his soul.
What could he do? He wasn’t a doctor. He wasn’t a healer. He was just a father — aging, tired, but filled with a love so deep it could move mountains. And so, he did the only thing left to do: he prayed.
He folded his hands, raised his eyes, and spoke silently to every God he had ever known. “Please… help her. Give her peace. Let her mind calm. Let her trust return. Let her take what will help her heal.”
Every minute crawled by like an hour. He walked to the balcony, looked up at the sky, and poured his silent tears into the night. There was no thunder. No miracle yet. Just silence, and the soft rustle of leaves.
Then, as if heaven had opened its unseen doors, a change came.
It was around 9 PM. She emerged from her room, her face softened. The storm in her eyes had subsided. Quietly, as if guided by some invisible hand, she picked up the pills and looked at him. “I’ll take them now,” she whispered.
For a moment, he couldn’t move. Did he hear her right? His heart skipped. His lips quivered. And then he simply nodded, hiding the tears that filled his eyes.
That night, the world didn't change. The stars didn’t shine any brighter. But in that small home, one prayer was answered. One battle was won. And one father found the strength to hope again.
Because sometimes, even in the darkest night, love and faith light a way forward.
